I have been a L4A mentor for over a year. Stood in for carer when on holiday and then covered at the weekends - aiding washing, use of commode, cooking etc. I found this a very satisfying experience although I have only being doing it for about 6 months and have not had to deal with much in the way of medical issues. As yet I have no formal qualifications.
