The family unit is the most important foundation of Greek society, providing emotional and economic support to the individual. Relationships in Greek families are extremely close. The social life of Greeks deeply involves our relatives and the extended family plays a strong role in our lives. The ‘yiayia’ (grandmother) and ‘pappoús’ (grandfather) play a particularly important role in child raising, often looking after a child whenever parents are unavailable. As I was raised by 2 grandparents, I believe, this job makes me feel closer to my family and I am convinced I can give the best of myself to support and care for them respecting their dignity and individual needs.
