Firstly, I feel it's best to say that I have not had any 'paid' experience to work with the elderly although I have had experience. For three years, until December 2013, I cared for my granddad. Once a week I would visit him and help with his meals, his garden, his post, Christmas cards and also just being there for company. He was very dependant on me and my mother and we were glad to help. As of January this year I volunteer for Age UK every Tuesday morning and spend time with the older people and keep them company and help with exercise. I am also looking into the process of becoming a be-friender, in which I go around to older people's homes and help with whatever they require. I am very interested in continuing my time with elderly people because I believe that they need company and help with personal needs.
